چکیده

Samples of DuPont 7A and 7C Teflon (PTFE, poly(tetrafluoroethylene)) were tested in compression at strain-rates between 10 and 1 s and temperatures between K198 and 200 8C. Additionally, using a Split-Hopkinson pressure bar, a temperature compression series was undertaken between K100 and 150 8C at a strain rate of 3200 s. To investigate the small-strain response, strain gauges were used to measure axial and transverse strain allowing the Poisson ratio to be quantified. As expected, the mechanical properties were found to be strongly affected by strain-rate and temperature. Moduli were found by several methods and the trend, with respect to temperature, lends weight to the suggestion that the glass-transition temperature of PTFE is zK100 8C. The physical properties of the sintered PTFE were measured and the crystallinities measured by several techniques. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. PACS: 62.20.Dc; 81.05.Lg; 85.35.Lr

Immobilization of bacteria and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in poly(tetrafluoroethylene) membranes.

A novel method for immobilization of bacteria and Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells is described. Microorganisms may be entrapped in a matrix of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) fibrils. Cells are blended with an aqueous emulsion of PTFE stabilized with Triton X-100 surfactant to form a thick paste. The paste is calendered biaxially in a standard rubber mill. This process causes fibrillation of th...

Synthesis Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Nanoparticles via Adsorption of TFE Monomer onto Different Surfaces

Introduction: The effects of different solid substrates including: carbon nanofibers (CNFs), activated carbon, alumina, silica, and poly vinyl pyrolidone (PVP) were compared for high pressure synthesis of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, (CF2)n) nanoparticles via the adsorption of thermally synthesized tetrafluoroethylene (TFE, C2F4) as monomer. Aim: Syntheses and characterization PTFE nanopartic...

New Insights in the Ion Beam Sputtering Deposition of ZnO-Fluoropolymer Nanocomposites

Surface modification treatments able to confer antistain/antibacterial properties to natural or synthetic materials are receiving increasing attention among scientists. Ion beam co-sputtering (IBS) of zinc oxide (ZnO) and poly-tetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) targets allows for the preparation of novel multifunctional coatings composed of antimicrobial ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) finely dispersed in an a...

Molecular ordering in monolayers of an alkyl-substituted perylene-bisimide dye by attenuated total reflectance ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy.

Surface-relative orientational parameters were determined for monolayer films of N, N'-ditridecylperylenetetracarboxylic dianhydridediimide (C13-PTCDI) in terms of the relative electronic transition dipole strengths, providing a three-dimensional view of the absorption dipole distribution. In order to obtain a macroscopically ordered film, C13-PTCDI was deposited by (1) horizontal Lang-muir-Blo...

A Composite Membrane of Caesium Salt of Heteropolyacids/Quaternary Diazabicyclo-Octane Polysulfone with Poly (Tetrafluoroethylene) for Intermediate Temperature Fuel Cells

Inorganic-organic composite electrolyte membranes were fabricated from CsXH3-XPMo12O40 (CsPOMo) and quaternary diazabicyclo-octane polysulfone (QDPSU) using a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) porous matrix for the application of intermediate temperature fuel cells. The CsPOMo/QDPSU/PTFE composite membrane was made proton conducting by using a relatively low phosphoric acid loading, which benefits...
